WE THE MAKERS DESIGN FESTIVAL 2020

The National Wool Museum will host a major new biennial Design Festival in 2020 – inviting fashion designers, makers and artists to make items of headwear, neckwear (including scarves), bodywear or footwear and complete looks – which respond to the Festival’s 2020 theme of “Design for the Future: Sustainable and Ethical Textiles and Fashion.”

Undress Runways was born out of a pop-up runway at a Brisbane car park in 2011. The event  strives for sustainability in fashion, diversity on the runway and setting a higher bar for the industry. Since then, Undress has grown into Australia’s leading sustainable fashion runway event worked on by hundreds of people each year. We have showcased over 100 Australian and international sustainable designers, welcomed more than 5,000 guests to our shows and reached 50,000 people each year.

Finding the Perfect Match...

This year has seen the launch of some new fashion collaborations including Saint Laurent and Havaianas, Neuw Denim and jewellery designer, Holly Ryan and Gorman and Indigenous artists from the Mangkaja Art Resource Agency Centre.  These pairings give emerging designers much-needed exposure, allow existing labels to experiment and attract new customers and in some cases, make a meaningful contribution.  It’s vital that the parties share the same values, vision and goals for the collaboration.  To avoid a messy break up, it’s critical that the parties see eye-to-eye on legal matters.
