Owner and Creative Director at FNJ Cre8ive | Melbourne
With over a decade of global experience with retail giant H&M, Fredrik Jansson is here to help Australian fashion brands ‘win’. Having worked with and in 40+ markets across the world, Fredrik is channeling his extensive operational knowledge and global network into his consultancy: FNJ Cre8ive .
WHAT WAS YOUR PATHWAY INTO THE INDUSTRY? WHAT IS YOUR PAST EXPERIENCE?
Hailing from Sweden, my Industry background includes 16 successful years with the forward thinking and agile retailer H&M in management & operations and other levels. I started my career back at Stockholm’s longest running family-owned and operated haberdashery, selling men’s suiting and uniforms. I later moved on to working in a boutique luxury-brand chain store, from sales advisor, visual merchandiser, store responsible through to buyer.
More recently, I migrated to Australia 2 years back with my Australian wife and 2 children after many years living both in Asia and in Europe. FNJ Cre8ive was a growing seedling for some time, and became a reality after being approached by advisors and fashion brands in my own network. In the ever-challenged fashion Industry, brands and companies need trustworthy doers with experience, unique and diverse skill sets, that can without a doubt deliver ROI. That’s where my consultancy and industry background comes in.
Having worked with and in 40+ markets across the World, operational knowledge in a multitude of cultures, with an extensive global contact network, this kind of experience has proved to be invaluable to companies that want to dominate local markets or establish themselves internationally.
WHERE DO YOU FIT INTO THE TCF VALUE CHAIN? WHAT IS FNJ CRE8IVE ALL ABOUT?
FNJ Cre8ive seeks to innovate in the areas of brand, company and product, influencing changes to increase efficiency. As an advisory and business development firm, we serve well in Fashion companies across the value chain that have a desire to evolve; from future plans and strategic compass through to daily operations.
FNJ Cre8ive looks to instigate changes that generate better clarity on the what and how; improving employee and team motivation, reverse declining sales and market shares, establishing a more confident customer understanding and through product development. We draw on inclusive and proven methods that will help a team come together for a more dynamic journey towards successful buying, sourcing operations and brand image.
The Journey with FNJ Cre8ive is one of true collaboration in a partnership to achieve the organisation’s goals and beyond. It begins instantly and there are practical processes that yield fit for purpose outcomes rather than long assessments. FNJ Cre8ive applies straightforward methods that really work and can sustain results, again and again.
As an individual consultant, I am able to keep pace with the changing needs of organisations, be agile, easy to work with and help relieve pressure points faster.
My business network and contacts are spread out globally, from business advisors, entrepreneurs, employees and managers in strong companies through to supply chain contacts across Asia and movers and shakers in the Industry.
WHAT IS KEEPING YOU BUSY AT THE MOMENT? ARE THERE ANY EXCITING PROJECTS ON THE HORIZON?
I am constantly investing to stay abreast of the Industry through travel, meetings, shopping rounds in stores and malls, attending trade fairs, magazines, following fashion & culture online and in magazines. I’m a member of the Council of Textile and Fashion (CTF) in Australia and a former member of the Swedish Fashion Council were I still I stay informed via their business intelligence newsletter and of course my through contacts in Europe, USA and Asia.
Currently I am assisting the CTF project on the Australian Supply Chain - identifying capabilities, value proposition and promoting the local supply chain to Australian Brands. Customer demand has changed a lot over the last say 5-7 years, and there is a higher demand for local production, design/innovation and working sustainably, which we hope to support as much as we can in our businesses.
I’m also already working with 2 fashion brands here in Australia since May 2017 and 2 Scandinavian based brands that I started working with at the start of this year. I am pursuing contact with more brands here as my network expands and FNJ Cre8ive is becoming more well known in Industry. You are most welcome to check out my website and get in contact.
RECOMMEND 5! WHO/WHAT/WHERE ARE YOUR LOCAL TEXTILE & FASHION GO TO’S?
I always keep track of what the big Australian and International Designers are doing every season. Combining internet searches and visits to the designer’s websites with actual store visits to see and feel the product.
I really enjoyed CTF’s Makers Meeting where we had a chance to visit Top Knit fabric’s factory in Newport and meet owner Ralph Bonadio. Ralph’s experience and passion for what he does and can do is so positive to see, as it is a local business competing with the offshore suppliers in Asia and other overseas market. He has very good machinery and know-how for the volumes he can produce. And the 2nd visit the same day to NMBQ - Screen printing, sampling manufacturing, and design consultancy for that ‘underground’ kind of feel design. The sky is the limit as far as the creation of designs to print, for the owners Dale and Sharmaine Cornell.
For those who can’t travel all the time… I recommend www.thesartorialist.com. There are heaps of great bloggers, influencers, fashion magazines, newspaper columns, trend inspiration cities etc. in the World... I just like Scott’s motto of “Creating a two-way dialogue about the world of fashion and its relationship to daily life.” And the pictures often provoke a thought… now that’s a good thing I think.
Australian nature and landscape is so vast, beautiful and inspiring. It is definitely a source of inspiration in itself and its right there for the taking.
