Makers Meeting | NMBQ & TOPKNIT
Last month we had another Makers Meeting, this time with local knitters Topknit and CMT/Screenprinters NMBQ! Thanks to the CTF members who joined us and for both NMBQ and Topknit for opening their factory doors. Take a peek at some of the action below.
First stop for the day was the incredible Topknit Factory in Newport, where we were greeted by the enthusiastic director Ralph Bonadio. Topknit are a long time Australian textile manufacturer, specialising in fine quality circular knit and supplying a host of local labels both small and large! Ralph took us through the whole process from planning specs and quality assurance through to the knitting of the textiles. The machinery and capability were amazing to see first hand, we highly recommend getting in touch if you are in the process of sourcing locally made materials.
Second stop for the day was the New Model Beauty Queen (NMBQ) Studio space in the backstreets of Brunswick. Bustling with character, owners Dale and Sharmaine Cornell guided us through the space, brimming with printing equipment, textile rolls, patterns, machinery and carefully crafted garment samples. After Dale took us through the repeat print process on the printing tables, Sharmaine showed us the sewing, cutting and pattern making floor. The NMBQ team work with an assortment of local labels, and are flexible to the various stages of business including sampling and short runs. Passionate about the local industry, the pair are also connected to a wider network of local makers and are well worth getting in touch with for a chat!
