We'd like to introduce you to some CTF Members, though we expect you may have come across them before! TESTEX is an independent Swiss testing and certification organisation operating worldwide with the focus on textile testing. In addition to its headquarters in Zurich (Switzerland), TESTEX has twelve other branch offices, including here in Melbourne. Sustainability, transparency and ethical standards are core principles to which TESTEX is committed. With its testing and certification services TESTEX supports manufacturers, suppliers, dealers, brands and end-users.
TESTING, ANALYSING & CERTIFYING
TESTEX have been testing, analysing and certifying with the focus on the textile sector since 1846. With extensive expertise, many years of experience and technical know-how, they support customers on the path to high-quality textile products.
As an accredited, internationally recognised and independent testing laboratory they certify according to strict international regulations and standards.
Since 1993 TESTEX and 15 other OEKO-TEX® member institutes have systematically supported companies in the textile industry in more than 60 countries worldwide with independent certifications and services to implement greater sustainability and product responsibility along the global textile value chain. These certifications include:
OEKO-TEX® Standard 100
There are currently no defining legal requirements or laws in Australia for chemicals in textile products that are imported to protect consumers and monitor manufacturers. Many hazardous substances (such as azo colourants) are illegal in many countries such as Europe, India and China.
The implementation of the OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certification not only helps protect consumers from coming into contact with hazardous substances but also retailers of costly product recalls which can be seen forced by the ACCC.
OEKO-TEX® STeP certification ensures transparency through the entire textile supply chain. Manufacturers are assessed on:
Social responsibility - e.g., no child labour, fair wages, working conditions
Chemicals – e.g. chemicals & their use
Quality management - e.g. based on ISO9001, documentation, traceability & risk management
Environmental Management Systems –eg.IS014001 and others, legal objectives
Safety - e.g. Worker & work place safety
Environmental performance - e.g., efficiency, water, air & waste management & carbon foot print
